The Gala

The 2010 Dentist of the Year Gala was so much fun!  We all had a wonderful time.  Although Dr. Rust did not receive the top award, just to be nominated is one of the most prestigious honors a dentist can receive in their careers.  He’s not only the dentist of the year in our hearts and minds, but dentist of the decade!  His dedication to his family, his staff and his patients is admirable and rare in today’s healthcare community.  He has been mentor to many and as a long time member of his staff I can honestly say that he is the most caring doctor I have ever known.  So please join us in congratulating a great man for receiving the recognition he justly deserves.

From the desk of Dr. Rust:

I just want to add a note to thank my staff.  The dentist of the year nomination was a great honor, but it takes a team to make a dentist successful.  He cannot do it on his own.  As an “almost” dentist of the year I know I do have the Texas Dental Staff of the Year!

Vitamin D

Almost everyone knows that Vitamin D is necessary in bone formation, but how much do we need and does Vitamin D help us in other ways?  Well, the amount we need is at least 2000 IU per day and some take up to 5000 IU per day. My physician recommends 2000 IU of Vitamin D per day, but you could ask your doctor to advise you about your daily need.

In addition to helping us maintain our bone health, Vitamin D also prevents some infectious diseases like asthma and upper respiratory tract infections.  Vitamin D also helps prevent heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes and periodontal disease.  There is evidence that Vitamin D also helps muscle strength, the autoimmune system, brain health and even PMS and sleeping disorders.

So, if you are not in the sun very much, take Vitamin D.

The importance of Pre-Rinse

We have our patients rinse with Crest Pro-Health mouthwash prior to treatment.  Many of you inquire why we do this.  Recent studies show that having patients pre-rinse with an antimicrobial rinse lowers the bacterial count in the mouth so that there is less bacteria to spread in the mouth and in the air.  This makes the procedure safer for you and the dental staff. Crest Pro Health contains cetylpyridinium chloride which kills millions of germs in the mouth.  It is alcohol free so it does not burn like many other rinses and is healthier for the tissues in the mouth.  Dr. Rust always recommends alcohol free mouthwash for our patients who use mouthwash.

Thank you!

Dr. Rust, his wife and staff would like to extend our thanks to some of our patients/friends who have helped us so much.
